KBio, Research and Development Expansion
KBio develops and executes processes transforming tobacco plants that efficiently produce complex proteins. These complex proteins are used in creating vaccines for several different viruses globally. Our team was awarded the Design-Build contract for their new 39,000 SF expansion to further their Research and Development facility in Owensboro, Ky. The expansion included new construction as well as renovation of the existing facilities. Areas of work included a new grow room, four new clean room labs, several offices, conference rooms, new break room, IT room, mechanical rooms, and a new shipping area expansion. It also included extensive site electrical work including new transformers, switchgear, 600’ electrical ductbank through the existing site, around the clock planned outages, and general site construction of parking, paving, and lift stations.
Our team served as the CM at Risk and self-performed the concrete, steel fabrication and erection, electrical, sheet metal, and roofing packages. This fast-track project began with a conceptual phase to develop KBio’s needs. The Design-Build process allowed our team to expedite the detailing and fabrication of steel, allowing for an earlier construction start.
