American Electric Power, Battery Energy Storage Project
Our team was selected as the self-performing general contractor for civil, mechanical, structural, and electrical work and the equipment moving and installation for this battery storage project. This innovative project solution provides redundancy to the power supply in two of Ohio’s rural areas. The equipment required to execute this project included three Samsung 1.64 MWh batteries that were installed on distribution circuits. Each battery was comprised of 24 racks with nine modules each. One battery is housed at the Pomeroy site in Racine, Ohio and the other two batteries are housed at the Minford site where each battery is connected electrically to one of the two phases. Other equipment and materials included battery enclosures, inverters, main transformers and 324 batteries weighing 120 lb. each that were stored at the owner’s facility.
Our team performed the foundation work, furnished and installed conduit and grounding, electrical, and all equipment moving. The equipment was a crucial part of the project that included the disconnection, loading, transportation, critical lifts, and installation at both sites. Our team prepared and implemented a plan for the critical equipment moving to avoid downtime, damaged equipment, and costly expense. We gained efficiencies and assured the project was completed on budget and on schedule utilizing the same crew to perform the work at both sites.
